How DataScoop builds every dataset
Every row we serve comes from an official publisher's own bulk product or API, is normalised into one documented schema, dated, attributed, and stripped of personal fields. This page is generated from the same registry that serves the data, so it describes exactly what is live right now.
Where the data comes from
Only official sources: government registers, regulators and city open-data portals, taken from the bulk files or APIs they publish for reuse. We do not scrape consumer websites, buy lists from brokers, or merge third-party enrichment into the record. Each dataset's source and licence are listed below and on its own page.
What we change, and what we do not
We map each source's columns onto a consistent schema (the same field means the same thing across datasets), normalise obvious formatting (dates, whitespace, casing of identifiers) and attach the publisher's attribution to every row. We do not correct, merge or de-duplicate records by judgement: if the publisher carries a duplicate or an out-of-date entry, so do we, and a closed business leaves our copy when it leaves the source. The page-level statistics are computed from the same rows you can download.
Freshness
Every dataset is re-imported on a fixed schedule (every 168 hours) from its official source; the import date shown on each page is the date that copy was taken. Publishers update on their own timetables, some daily and some monthly, so a row can lag the live register by up to one publishing cycle. Check the official record before relying on a single row for a legal, financial or safety decision.
What we withhold
Organisational data only. Fields the source classes as personal (people's names, personal phone numbers and emails, home addresses) are withheld from every export, API response and page, and are listed per dataset below. This is a deliberate line: it keeps buyers on the right side of UK GDPR and equivalent regimes, and it is enforced in code, not policy.
Corrections
If a record looks wrong, email hello@datascoop.io with the dataset, the record and a link to the official entry. We check it against the source at the next import and reply. We do not edit source data by hand.
Independence
DataScoop is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any publisher whose data it carries. Licences and attribution strings are on the licences page.
